A Journey to Andean Roots and the Solstice Celebration
The celebration of Inti Raymi reinforces cultural identity and the pride of being part of ancestral traditions. It is a time for communities to come together, share stories and customs, and celebrate their common heritage.
The Inti Raymi festival in Ecuador is celebrated in various places in the country, especially in indigenous communities and cities in the Andean region, it is celebrated on the winter solstice, around June 21.
After the arrival of the Spanish and colonization, many indigenous traditions, including Inti Raymi, were suppressed or transformed. However, indigenous communities kept the essence of this festival alive throughout the centuries.
On these days people wear colorful ponchos, traditional hats, skirts, embroidered shirts and jewelry and accessories like necklaces, bracelets and earrings made of natural materials such as seeds, stones and metals.
Food is super important, in this celebration it is consumed roasted guinea pig, Chicha de jora which is a fermented corn-based drink, llapingachos, hornado and wind empanadas.
For a better celebration, the following practices are carried out: Rituals and Ceremonies, Traditional dances, Parades and Processions and Fairs and Markets.
